A glass awning in Malaysia costs about RM 78 – 120 per sq ft installed. A standard 20 ft × 10 ft car porch (200 sq ft) lands at RM 16,000 – 24,000. Laminated glass, stainless fixings and a concealed gutter sit at the top of that range.

Glass options

  • Tempered glass, 10 or 12 mm: clear, tinted or frosted
  • Laminated glass, 6+6 mm or 8+8 mm: holds together if cracked, cuts UV and heat. Our default for anywhere people stand underneath
  • Low-E or tinted laminated glass for west-facing porches

Frame

  • Powder-coated aluminium box section, black, charcoal or white
  • Wall-mounted cantilever up to about 6 ft without posts; longer spans use slim posts or a steel primary beam
  • Stainless steel bolts and spider fittings, not mild steel

Drainage

  • Minimum 5° fall, set out in the drawing before fabrication
  • Concealed aluminium gutter inside the front beam, downpipe hidden in the post
  • Silicone structural glazing, no exposed clamps on the top face

Where it works best

  • Front car porch of a bungalow or semi-D
  • Main entrance canopy
  • Side walkway between house and boundary wall
  • Patio where you still want daylight indoors

5 years on the frame and water leakage at joints. Glass breakage from impact is excluded, which is why we specify laminated glass.

Questions people ask

What is the price of a glass awning in Malaysia?

About RM 78 – 120 per sq ft installed in the Klang Valley. A 200 sq ft car porch is roughly RM 16,000 – 24,000. The frame material, glass type and drainage detail move the price more than the glass itself.

Tempered or laminated glass for an awning?

Laminated. Tempered glass is strong but shatters into small pieces if hit by a falling object. Laminated glass cracks and stays in the frame. For a roof over people and cars, laminated is the safer choice and what we recommend.

Does a glass awning get hot underneath?

Clear glass does. Tinted or Low-E laminated glass cuts a large share of the heat while keeping the light. For a west-facing porch we specify tinted laminated glass as standard.

How wide can a glass awning cantilever without posts?

About 6 ft from the wall with an aluminium frame. Beyond that we add slim posts or a steel primary beam so the glass never carries structural load.

Do I need council approval for a glass awning?

A car porch awning on a landed house usually needs a simple submission to the local council (DBKL, MBPJ, MBSA). We prepare the drawing you need. Condominiums need management approval first.
