Design visualisation. Motorised louvres half open over a backyard dining area.

A motorised louvred pergola in Malaysia costs about RM 130 – 200 per sq ft installed. Fixed-blade aluminium louvres start around RM 85 per sq ft. A typical 12 ft × 16 ft backyard pergola (192 sq ft) is RM 25,000 – 40,000 motorised.

System

  • Extruded aluminium frame, powder-coated, 15 – 20 year life in tropical weather
  • Louvre blades rotate 0 – 120°, overlapping when closed to form a sealed roof
  • Integrated gutters in the beams, water drains down the posts

Control

  • Motorised with remote or wall switch
  • Rain sensor closes the blades automatically
  • Optional LED strips in the beams and side screens or sliding glass

Fixed louvres

A lower-cost option with blades set at one angle. Good for shade over a walkway. Rain still gets through, so not for a dining area.

Questions people ask

Do louvered pergolas leak when it rains?

A properly made system does not. The blades overlap when closed and the water runs into a gutter built into the beam, then down the post. Leaks come from blades that do not fully close or from missing gutters, which is a fabrication problem, not a design one.

How long do louvered pergolas last?

A powder-coated aluminium pergola lasts 20 – 30 years in Malaysia. The motor is the part that wears, typically 8 – 12 years, and it is replaceable without touching the structure.

What is the average cost of a louvered pergola in Malaysia?

Roughly RM 130 – 200 per sq ft for a motorised system, so most home projects fall between RM 25,000 and RM 60,000 depending on size and options.

Can I add a pergola to a condo rooftop or balcony?

Often yes, with management approval. Aluminium is light, so loading is rarely the issue. We provide the drawing and spec for the submission.

Pergola or glass awning for a backyard?

If you want to eat outside in the evening with air moving, a louvred pergola. If you want a permanent, maintenance-free roof that keeps the kitchen bright, a glass awning. Many homes do a glass awning at the front and a pergola at the back.
