Glass costs 2 – 3 times more than polycarbonate and lasts 2 – 3 times longer. Polycarbonate yellows and gets hot by year five. Front porch or entrance: glass.

Price, installed, Klang Valley 2026

  • Glass: RM 78 – 120 per sq ft
  • Polycarbonate: RM 20 – 35 per sq ft
  • 200 sq ft car porch: RM 16,000 – 24,000 glass, RM 4,000 – 7,000 polycarbonate

How they age

  • Polycarbonate yellows, scratches and goes hazy in 5 – 8 years
  • Laminated glass looks the same at year 15
  • Polycarbonate needs a thicker steel frame, so the roof looks heavier

Heat, light, noise

  • Clear polycarbonate runs hotter underneath
  • Tinted laminated glass cuts most heat, keeps the light
  • Polycarbonate drums in rain; glass is quiet

Pick by location

  • Front porch or entrance: glass
  • Backyard dining: glass or a louvred pergola
  • Service yard: polycarbonate is acceptable; we would still use PU metal

Is a glass awning worth the extra cost?
