Do louvered pergolas leak when it rains?
By Eave · 1 Nov 2026

A well-built motorised louvred pergola does not leak: closed blades interlock and rain drains through a gutter beam and hollow posts. Installed in the Klang Valley: RM 130 – 200 per sq ft (2026).
Why closed louvres stay dry
- Each aluminium blade overlaps the next into a flat roof
- Blades sit on a slight fall towards the perimeter gutter
- Rain sensor closes the roof automatically

Where the water goes
- Perimeter beam doubles as a four-sided gutter
- Hollow posts work as hidden downpipes
- Outlet at the post base runs to your floor drain

When a pergola does leak
- Cheap kits with thin blades that bow and gap
- Gutter clogged with leaves, water backs up over the blades
- Poor wall flashing: the wall joint leaks, not the roof

What Eave builds
- Motorised 6063-T5 aluminium blades, 160 km/h wind rating
- Four-sided gutter, hidden downpipes, flashed to the wall
- RM 130 – 200 per sq ft; a 12 × 16 ft terrace is about RM 25,000 – 38,000
